Indicators are small ovals that appear on the top row of the PSM screen. These indicators can be turned on or off depending upon a condition. This could be a completion of a step, a count or any other factor that could be shown through a colored light. To complete this guide you must have an existing PSM or a new one that you are adding to the system and the AMS program installed.

1. Open the VT3000 web interface – click on the VT3000 button – click on Configuration on the home page – click on Devices from the configuration page.

2. If you have an existing PSM – click on it to highlight it the click on the Edit button.

3. If this is a new PSM – click on the Product Status Module icon under the Add New menu.

4. Click on Virtual Indicators tab.

5. There are multiple icons available in the Indicators tool box. All icons will be enabled when multiple Indicators are created. An explanation of each icon is below.

- select this icon to add a new indicator.
- select this icon to delete an indicator.
- select this icon to duplicate an indicator.
- select this option to copy an indicator to the clipboard.
- select this option to paste an indicator from the clipboard.
- use the arrows to move indicator up or down in the list.

6. Click on the Add Indicator icon.

7. The screen will appear as below – an explanation of each section is below:

A. Description – this will appear below the indicator button when it is not hidden. B. Default State – select what you want the indicator to do when nothing has occurred. i. Off – the indicator will show with no color. ii. On – the indicator will show with the color that you select. iii. Blinking – the indicator will blink with the color that you select. iv. Hidden – the indicator will not show on the screen anywhere. C. Default Color – select the color that the indicator will be with on or blinking. You can choose from Red, Yellow, Green, Blue or White. D. Default Text – this is the text that will appear inside the indicator button when it is not hidden.

8. For our example, we will be showing a machine down alarm on another module. The indicator will be off when not used and will light up Red when the alarm is set.

9. Click on the Save & Exit button.

Condition for Indicator:

To turn the indicator light on you must create a trigger in the AMS software. For our example below we are going to be looking at another module to see if an alarm has been set. If the alarm is set we will turn on an indicator.

10. Open the VT3000 web interface – click on the AMS button – click on the Triggers button.

11. On the Triggers page click on the Monitor button.

12. Enter a name for the Monitor – set the Period (seconds) to an amount that fits to your application. If the alarm is triggered frequently then set the time to something low like 10 seconds. If the alarm is not triggered very often then 60 seconds should serve your purposes well. Leave Repeat Actions unchecked as well as Disabled.

13. Click on the Tags tab – click on the Plus button to add a new tag. These work like the tags in VP IV, we need to create a tag to get the state of an alarm on another module.

14. Give the tag a name – select State for Functionality – select Monitoring Point for Data Source – select the name of the other module for Device – select the Alarm for Monitoring Point – select Integer for Result.

15. Click on the Conditions tab – click on the Plus button to add a new condition. We need to tell the software to turn on the Red Indicator light if the state of the alarm on module 2 is greater than zero.

16. Enter the name of the tag you just created (you must type a tilde symbol ~ in front of the tag name) in the Field 1 field – select the greater than symbol in the Operator field – enter the number zero in Field 2 – click on the Add Action button (this is where we will tell the system to turn on the indicator).

17. Select Modify Indicator for What – select the PSM that has the indicator lights setup on it for Device – select the correct indicator light (by its description) for Indicator – select On for the State – select Red for the Color – leave Text blank.

18. Click on the Plus button to add an additional condition. We need to tell the system to turn the light off when the alarm is cleared.

19. Enter the name of the tag you just created (you must type a tilde symbol ~ in front of the tag name) in Field 1 – select the equals symbol in the Operator field – enter the number zero in Field 2 – click on the Add Action button (this is where we will tell the system to turn off the indicator).

20. Select Modify Indicator for What – select the PSM that has the indicator lights setup on it for Device – select the correct indicator light (by its description) for Indicator – select Off for the State – select Red for the Color – leave Text blank

21. Click on the Save & Exit button.

Update the Module:

1. Open the VT3000 web interface – click on the VT3000 button – click on the Diagnostics icon – click on the Device Status icon.

2. Find the PSM that you will be using – click on the Update link next to the Device Name.

3. After the module receives the update an indicator light will appear at the top in the middle of the PSM touch screen, labeled as Machine Down (for this example).

Testing the Setup:

1. Activate the Machine Down alarm on Module 2 (for this example). The indicator light on Module 1 (PSM) will now show as red.

2. Deactivate the Machine Down alarm on Module 2 – the indicator light on Module 1 will now be unlit.

This concludes our guide on indicator lights. The basics have been covered here, but it is a foundation for users to build on and use for different purposes. The key is to remember that the AMS software controls the on and off actions of the indicator light.
