The I/O module for a PSM or TIM and a Switch Contact module have inputs that can receive wired signals from outside sources. These contacts can be set up to activate alarms. Prior to completing this guide you will need to have a wired contact from the machine connected to the I/O module or Switch Contact. For more information on wired contacts see the How To Guide on Wiring Inputs.

1. Open the VT3000 software – login with your username and password – click on the Configuration icon on the home page – click on the Devices icon on the configuration page.

2. On the Devices page either click on the PSM or TIM icon from the Add New menu or select an existing device and click on the Edit button.

3. Click on the Discrete Inputs tab.

4. There are 4 inputs that can be configured – click on the one that will be used for your down contact.

5. A properties menu will show to the right of the output menu. By default, the Type will show Disabled. Click on the down arrow and select Transition.

6. The following options will be available after Transition is selected.

a. Type – select Transition b. Enabled – to enable the input click in the box. c. Inverted – click in the box to place a check mark in the box if you wire the contact to be consistently on and only trip an alarm when it is off. d. On Delay – enter a time in milliseconds to create a delay when the contact is turned on. e. Off Delay – enter a time in milliseconds to create a delay when the contact is turned off. f. Linked To – you will use this field to select an alarm to associate with the contact. Any alarms set up as Switch Contact will appear in this list.

7. Below is an example of a typical Machine Down Input.

8. After the Transition is setup click on the Save & Exit button. The setup must be saved first before it can be linked in the following steps.

9. From the Devices page, click on the PSM or TIM that you added the Transition - click on the Edit button.

10. Click on the Monitoring Points tab.

11. Only an Alarm can be linked to a Transition input. The alarm cannot be inside of a Process. In the Monitoring Points tool box click on the Alarm icon.

12. On the Alarm Properties section, select the same options that are shown in the example below:

13. Click on Root or one of the other Monitoring Points so the Machine Down alarm will save.

14. After the Alarm is setup click on the Save & Exit button. The setup must be saved first before it can be linked in the following steps.

15. From the Devices page, click on the PSM or TIM that you added the Transition & Alarm to - click on the Edit button.

16. Click on the Discrete Inputs tab.

17. From the menu select the Discrete Input that was setup as a Transition.

18. On the Discrete Input properties section select Machine Down for the Linked To field.

19. After the making the selection for the Linked To field click on the Save & Exit button.
