Firmware updates are sent out with Software updates. This guide explains how to update firmware on the I/O Module and Tablet for PSM, TIM and BSC. Before starting this guide contact VersaCall Service to get a zip file containing the files needed for this process. IMPORTANT – ALWYAS update the Touch Screen first then update the I/O module. Failure to do this will cause the Touch Screen to loose communication with the I/O module. A device that is able to read a micro SD card is required for this process.

1. After receiving the zip file from VersaCall – extract the 2 files. One will be named “0001_00.apk” the other “LOADME.hex”. Ensure that you have both of these files and that you save them in a location you can access easily.

2. Stop all processes and alarms on the module – ensure no one tries to use the device until after the update is completed.

3. Disconnect power from the I/O module. Unscrew the 4 screws on the front of the I/O module and remove the cover.

4. Inside you will see the I/O board – in the top right corner next to the Output bar is the location of the micro SD card.

5. To remove the micro SD card, you will need to push up on the metal sleeve then pull down. When you push up you will feel the sleeve click – this means it is ready to be opened by pulling down. NOTE: do this step with care. If the sleeve is damaged the entire I/O module will need to be replaced.

6. Insert the micro SD card into the reader you have available. Open Windows Explorer if it does not automatically open after inserting the micro SD card.

7. Use Windows Explorer to find the location the you stored the 2 files from the zip file. Right click on the “0001_00.apk” file and select Copy.

8. Go to the other Windows Explorer window for the micro SD card – right click and select Paste. NOTE: do not alter or remove any of the files that show on the card.

9. Remove the micro SD card from the reader – insert the micro SD card into the sleeve on the I/O module.

10. Push up on the sleeve then down until it clicks in place.

11. Connect power to the I/O module. After a 2 to 5 minutes you will see the touch screen show a “Downloading Software” message. Once that screen appears it will stay for 2 to 5 minutes.

12. When the “Downloading Software” message disappears you will see a “Downloading Software Update” status bar. This bar will continue to the end signifying the update has been downloaded onto the Touch Screen. The total download time should be about 15 to 20 minutes.

13. Once the download is complete you will see a VersaCall Installation screen appear – click on the Install option in the bottom right corner.

14. The touch screen should return you to the VersaCall screen. If you are returned to the Android home screen click on the Home icon at the bottom.

15. Disconnect power from the I/O module. Remove the micro SD card as you did in step 5.

16. Insert the micro SD card into the reader you have available. Open Windows Explorer if it does not automatically open after inserting the micro SD card.

17. Use Windows Explorer to find the location the you stored the 2 files from the zip file. Right click on the “LOADME.hex” file and select Copy.

18. Go to the other Windows Explorer window for the micro SD card – right click and select Paste. NOTE: do not alter or remove any of the files that show on the card.

19. Remove the micro SD card from the reader – insert the micro SD card into the sleeve on the I/O module.

20. Push up on the sleeve then down until it clicks in place.

21. Connect power to the I/O module.

22. The I/O module will only take 2 to 4 minutes to update. After this process, you can check the Device Status to ensure the module shows the latest firmware version.
